Using Donor Eggs

For many, choosing donor eggs comes after years of challenges and grief, and can mark the beginning of a new chapter filled with hope. Since 1991, our expert team, supported by the UK’s largest frozen egg bank, has guided patients with compassionate care and personalised advice. With carefully screened UK-sourced eggs from altruistic donors, we help you take the next step with confidence toward building your family.

Using Donor Eggs

Donor egg treatment helps individuals and couples grow their family when using their own eggs isn’t possible. At London Women’s Clinic, carefully screened UK sourced donor eggs are fertilised through IVF to create embryos, which are then gently placed in the womb to begin the journey toward pregnancy.

Using donor eggs can open the door to parenthood when your own eggs can’t. It can also be a route to success after challenges such as repeated IVF cycles, recurrent miscarriage or early menopause. For many, it’s not just a treatment - it represents the chance to carry a pregnancy and become a parent. With eggs from young, carefully screened altruistic donors, success rates are strong, with live birth outcomes of around 36-42% per embryo transferred, for patients up to the age of 50.

With decades of experience and thousands of successful cycles, our doctors combine scientific expertise with compassionate care to give you the best possible chance of success.

Who Can Benefit from Donor Egg IVF?

Deciding to use donor eggs can feel emotionally complex, and that’s completely natural. Many people experience feelings of grief and loss before starting this journey. With the right support and information, donor egg treatment can offer the possibility of building a family.

Donor egg IVF provides an incredible opportunity for many people who might otherwise struggle to conceive. Whether due to medical conditions, age, or other fertility challenges, using donor eggs can help make pregnancy - and parenthood - possible.

This treatment is often recommended for:

When the ovaries stop producing viable eggs earlier than expected, donor eggs can offer a reliable path to conception.

As egg quality naturally declines with age or certain health issues, donor eggs from a younger egg donor can significantly increase the chances of a successful pregnancy.

For those who’ve faced multiple unsuccessful IVF cycles or recurrent pregnancy loss, donor eggs may improve embryo quality and support a healthy pregnancy.

Donor eggs make it possible for same-sex male couples and single individuals to grow their families through surrogacy or assisted reproductive treatments.

Finding Hope with Donor Egg IVF

Transitioning from treatments using your own eggs to donor eggs can bring a mix of emotions, and that’s completely normal. You may feel a sense of loss over the genetic connection you had hoped for and it’s natural to grieve the path to parenthood you once imagined. These feelings are valid and part of the emotional journey.

With time, many people come to see donor egg IVF not as giving something up, but as gaining another chance to build the family they’ve always hoped for.

Our experienced counsellors are here to help you process these emotions and move forward with confidence and compassion.

How Using Donor Eggs Works

Using donor eggs is a carefully guided process designed to give you the best chance of starting or growing your family. From your first consultation to support after embryo transfer, your fertility team is with you every step of the way.

Step 1

You and your donor undergo medical checks and counselling to make sure everyone is ready - physically, emotionally and medically. This helps tailor the process to your needs.

Step 2

You can choose a donor based on medical compatibility, appearance and personal preferences. Through our partnership with London Egg Bank, you also have access to frozen donor eggs from over 300 UK-recruited donors, so you can start your journey without delay.

Step 3
  • If you’re using fresh eggs: The donor’s eggs are collected and fertilised in the lab.
  • If you’re using frozen eggs: The eggs are thawed and fertilised.

In both cases, the embryos are carefully monitored as they grow.

Step 4
  • If you’re using fresh eggs: Your embryo is transferred five or six days after egg retrieval.
  • If you’re using frozen eggs: Your embryo is transferred after around five days of progesterone preparation.

The transfer is usually quick and painless, giving your embryo the best chance to settle in.

Step 5

Your care doesn’t stop there - your team will support you through pregnancy testing and every step of your journey.

Exploring Your Donor Egg Options

Every patient’s fertility journey is unique. We want you to feel informed, supported and confident in your choices from the very beginning.

Your donor egg treatment can be tailored to your medical needs and family plans:

Eggs are collected from the donor and used immediately in IVF treatment, without freezing or warming.

Embryos can be created using your partner’s sperm or a carefully screened donor, depending on what works best for your family.

Some patients benefit from shared programmes, which can reduce costs and expand options.

Eggs are collected and frozen in advance, offering flexibility, faster scheduling and convenient planning.

Does the donor have any rights to children conceived from their donation?

If you’re having treatment at a licensed UK fertility clinic, donors have no legal rights or responsibilities for children born from their donation. All treatment is regulated by the Human Fertilisation and Embryology Authority (HFEA), ensuring donors and recipients remain anonymous to each other. Children born through donation after 1 April 2005 can access identifying information about their donor at age 18.

For donors this means:

  • They are not legally responsible for the child.
  • They will not appear on the birth certificate.
  • They have no rights over the child’s upbringing.
  • They are not required to provide financial support.

How We Match You With the Right Donor

Choosing an egg donor is one of the most important parts of your journey and we believe those decisions should be guided by evidence.

Research* from the London Egg Bank (LEB), our sister donor bank, drew on 494 donors and 559 recipients to better understand what gives you the best chance of success.

Interestingly, the findings showed that the very youngest donors aren't always the best choice - an insight that helps inform our approach.

It's just one of the ways evidence and experience work quietly behind the scenes to give you the best possible start.

We started our IVF process with LWC around a year ago. It felt very daunting and a long road ahead, and the entire team were so supportive and explained everything so clearly. When we were undergoing the egg retreival and transfer, the team were so kind and we felt really looked after. We have now welcomed our little girl and after years of trying, we wouldn't have gotten here without the support and guidance given by LWC. Thank you all!

I've recently completed a round of egg freezing with London Women's Clinic harrow and I couldn't recommend them as a clinic more. Carla and Ana-Maria quite literally held my hand throughout the entire process, making me feel really relaxed and supported. It's made such a stressful experience super positive and if anyone is thinking of using them, I'd absolutely recommend them!

I undertook Kind IVF, which even though is nurse led as opposed to consultant led, the care, professionalism and knowledge is there. The nurses consult with consultants during your protocol, so the difference really is you see the nurses instead. The medication doses are less and less medication, but this doesn't mean it will be less effective, it is an option worth exploring, as the cost is less and can open the door when more traditional ivf is out of reach. I am currently pregnant having gone through the kind ivf protocol one time.

We will be forever grateful to London Women's Clinic Bromley for helping us achieve what once felt impossible -- welcoming our beautiful, healthy baby boy in November 2025. Our IVF journey was emotional, overwhelming at times, and deeply personal, but from the very first appointment we were met with nothing but kindness, compassion, and unwavering support. Every step was clearly explained, we were kept fully informed throughout, and there was always someone available to answer our questions or simply reassure us when we needed it most. We never once felt like just another patient -- we felt truly cared for. Dr Malini, Sarah, Nicky (Nikita) and Dom were exceptional and will always hold a very special place in our hearts. Their warmth, patience, and genuine kindness made the process so much easier to cope with. They made us feel safe, comfortable, and supported during some of the most vulnerable moments of our lives. Every nurse, embryologist, and member of staff we encountered was wonderful. We honestly cannot recommend London Women's Clinic Bromley enough to anyone struggling with fertility or facing similar challenges. The dedication, empathy, and expertise of this team has changed our lives forever. We hope to take the clinic up on their offer to visit with our little miracle, who we are endlessly thankful they helped bring into this world. Thank you from the bottom of our hearts. Lucy & Sayed

My journey with egg freezing in the LWC has been amazing. I had started consultations with another provider before but didn't feel comfortable there, and I'm SO GLAD I listened to my instinct and went to this clinic! The whole team was so knowledgeable and supportive throughout, but also just lovely. I would recommend the clinic, ESPECIALLY if you are worried about the process and feel emotional, the understanding and support here is way beyond what I was hoping for!!!

This was my first fertility treatment, and I cannot express enough how thankful I am to have chosen LWC and to have been treated at the Harrow clinic. I would highly recommend it to anyone considering starting their fertility journey! From the start, I appreciated how transparent the admin team was about all the costs involved at every stage, giving clear ranges when the decision depended on how the treatment would go. I am also extremely grateful for their support in helping with securing financing, even when I decided to move forward at short notice. They took the time to schedule calls to answer my questions, and I truly felt listened to and cared for as a patient. At the Harrow clinic, I experienced an exceptionally caring and positive environment. All the nurses were highly professional while also being incredibly comforting and supportive. I would especially like to thank Ana Maria, who was there throughout the process, offering practical advice based on her own experience, a hug when needed, and making the entire journey feel much more like home. I would also like to thank Carla for her positivity, high energy, and encouragement during difficult moments, and Laura for her empowering and reassuring approach to the injections. Dr Goswami was also outstanding--extremely professional and clear in her advice. She carefully adjusted the treatment to aim for the best possible outcome while prioritising safety and minimising risks. I am also very grateful for the support groups organised by the clinic. Through these, I met incredibly brave and empowered women and couples. Sharing this journey with some of them made the experience far more bearable and positive. Thank you to everyone at the Harrow clinic and LWC for your incredible support!!

We had a very positive experience at this IVF clinic and would highly recommend it. From the very beginning, we felt well supported and looked after throughout the entire journey. A special thank you to Safak, our patient coordinator, who was incredibly helpful and always very quick to respond. We would also like to thank Princess, the receptionist, as well as the Italian receptionist whose name we unfortunately don't remember, for always being kind and welcoming. We are extremely grateful to Dr Suraya, who performed many of our scans and was exceptional throughout the process, and to Dr Rao, who followed our journey step by step with great care, professionalism and attention. Finally, a big thank you to all the nurses, especially Hannah,Ella and Paige, for their support, kindness and professionalism. Overall, we felt very well cared for and supported, and we truly recommend this clinic to anyone considering IVF!

We don't know where to begin, this place truly is wonderful. So so comforting and welcoming. Every single staff member went above and beyond and really felt like family. We couldn't be more appreciative of everyone who helped us on our way to creat our little one, who is cooking away nicely at 20 weeks. From choosing a sperm donor to my egg collection and then to getting my wife pregnant with the embryos a few months later, it was so stress free and we felt supported every single step of the way. We can't thank all the lovely wonderful ladies at the Brentwood clinic enough for what they have helped us achieve- and of course the amazing people at the Harley street clinic for doing the procedures who were just as welcoming! Thank you all so so much, we can't wait to bring our little man to meet you all when we are ready to try for baby number 2 xxxxx

Following a seminar I attended at LWC, I arranged a consultation with Dr. Naware who specialises in fertility for women over 40. It was a refreshing experience. Dr. Naware is empathetic, kind and thorough. The follow up from the clinic was excellent, with Safak, Patient Coordinator, providing regular updates.

FAQs about Using Donor Eggs

All donors undergo a comprehensive screening process before joining London Egg Bank. This includes medical, fertility, lifestyle, psychological and genetic assessments to ensure safety, suitability and high-quality eggs.

You’ll be able to browse the London Egg Bank donor catalogue, which includes rich, thoughtful profiles of every approved donor. Many people choose donors based on shared physical characteristics, ethnicity, personality traits or values - or simply on what feels like the right fit for their future family.

Yes, fertilisation and success rates for frozen eggs are comparable to fresh eggs, meaning treatment can begin without waiting for a donor cycle.

It’s normal to experience loss, uncertainty or mixed emotions. Counselling and emotional support are available throughout your journey to help you process these feelings. Through our partnership with London Egg Bank, you also get access to Paths to ParentHub, a supportive resource for those using our donor eggs. Additionally, we encourage connecting with the Donor Conception Network, which provides guidance, peer support and community for donor-conceived families.

Donor eggs enable single individuals and same-sex couples to grow their families via IVF or surrogacy.

The uterus does not age in the same way the ovaries and eggs do. The chances of your conceiving are therefore barely affected by your age at treatment.
